About

Good Jobs in the 21st Century

Right now, Americans have an opportunity. Three years after the biggest economic downturn in a generation — and while tens of millions remain out of work, under-employed or worried about keeping the jobs they have now — we have an opportunity to close the jobs gap and ensure the U.S. is a leader in the 21st century global economy.

How do we do that? By building the industries of the 21st century — the ones that will help us to keep the jobs we have now and create new ones — here in the United States. A 21st century economy will require building a cleaner, more efficient economy. And right now, China, Germany and other countries are already building the industries that will get them there — and creating the jobs that come with it. If we don't act now, we risk being left behind in the biggest job-creating opportunity of our generation.

What is Jobs21!?

Jobs21! is a nationwide grassroots campaign, coordinated by the BlueGreen Alliance to maintain our current jobs and create new ones by making America more competitive in the 21st century economy. With a plan to create jobs inrenewable energy, energy efficiency, transportation, broadband, a smart electrical grid, broadband Internet, recycling and green chemistry — jobs in sectors like manufacturing, construction and education — we can set America back on the path to prosperity and put people to work.

What else is important in the 21st century economy? Creating good jobs that pay a living wage, improving health and safety in the workplace, and protecting our air, land and water for the next generation. These are the kinds of jobs that will revitalize our middle class, secure our future, and protect the environment.

Jobs21 is coordinated by the BlueGreen Alliance, a national partnership of labor unions and environmental organizations working to create good jobs, a clean environment and a 21st century economy in the United States. Uniting 12 major U.S. labor unions and four of America's most influential environmental organizations, the BlueGreen Alliance brings together more than 14 million members and supporters.
