MINNEAPOLIS, MN (February 26, 2014) – Today, President Obama will visit the Metro Transit Light Rail Operations and Maintenance Facility and Union Depot in St. Paul, MN to unveil a new $302 billion proposal to invest in America’s infrastructure like crumbling roads and bridges. The proposal begins to address the BlueGreen Alliance’s Repair America agenda. BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director, David Foster released the following statement:

“Our infrastructure is the foundation on which our country stands and we are all responsible for securing and preserving it. President Obama’s call for a $302 billion, four-year transportation bill takes the necessary steps to address the deferred maintenance and repairs that have added up over decades and to plan for a better future.

“A 19th century infrastructure made of wooden water pipes, pothole-marked roads, lackluster transit options, unsafe bridges, and an overburdened electrical grid won’t cut it in a 21st century economy. Fixing our broken infrastructure will create jobs, waste less money on inefficiencies, help solve climate change, and make our communities safer, healthier and more secure, but we need funding like President Obama’s proposal, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro’s National Infrastructure Bank legislation, and champions like Senator Amy Klobuchar pushing for innovative infrastructure investment to get it all done.

“In the past, Americans worked together to build this backbone of systems we rely on every day. We owe it to ourselves—and future generations—to once again join together to fix them so that our families and communities are safe, healthy and prepared for climate change.”
