BlueGreen Alliance: Put Partisan Agenda Aside, Pass Long-Term Transportation Plan

The U.S. economy can’t run in fits and starts, but the House of Representatives passed measures that have that effect and make cuts to programs that if fully funded, would create thousands of jobs.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 29, 2012) Today, the House of Representatives passed two measures that would result in cuts to programs that if fully funded, would create thousands of jobs. BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Dave Foster released the following statement on the Ryan budget and the House’s temporary extension of federal transportation funding:

“The U.S. economy can’t run in fits and starts, and that is the effect of years of short-term funding for federal transportation projects and of cuts to our nation’s proven job creating programs in the Ryan budget.

“Enough is enough. Americans want to see follow through on a long-term vision that improves American competitiveness, boosts economic growth and creates jobs. Modernizing our nation’s transportation infrastructure and continuing investments and policies that expand the development and deployment of clean technologies will create jobs and position the United States to compete in the global 21st century economy. But today’s actions by House leadership show that they are more interested in advancing a partisan agenda than in creating jobs for the millions of Americans who are still unemployed.

“Long-term investments in our roads and railways in the Senate transportation bill pave the best path forward and are critical to our economy and our recovery. We urge the House take up the Senate-approved transportation bill immediately.”
