ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

The Blue Green Alliance (BGA) is a strategic initiative founded in 2006 by the United Steelworkers and the Sierra Club, bringing together the labor and environmental movements in support of a clean energy economy where the creation of good, green jobs goes hand in hand with environmental progress. BGA has grown to include the nation's two largest environmental organizations (Sierra Club and NRDC) and seven of North America's largest trade unions (USW, SEIU, CWA, LIUNA, UWUA, AFT and ATU)-with a combined 8.3 million members and supporters-all joined in a historic partnership to address the challenges posed by the global economic and climate crises.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Blue Green Alliance seeks a full-time Development Associate to assist in developing an individual giving program and securing corporate, foundation and government grants in a high-volume development department responsible for raising $7 million annually. The Development Associate will report to the Director of Development. The successful candidate will have a background working in multiple areas of nonprofit development and will demonstrate strong writing, research, communication and organizational skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help to design, execute and maintain individual giving program;
  • Research, identify and develop donor prospects;
  • Execute direct mail campaigns;
  • Execute online giving strategies;
  • Assist in organizing fundraising events;
  • Collect, process and maintain funder information and grant guidelines in a sophisticated fundraising database and file system;
  • Prepare timely reports on pending grants, proposal and report deadlines, and other fundraising deadlines;
  • Assist in writing, editing, packaging and sending letters of inquiry, grant reports and grant requests;
  • Assist in the production and maintenance of grant application and reporting material;
  • Work with the Director of Development and program or project leaders to ensure timely responses to fundraising deadlines, opportunities and grant obligation fulfillment;
  • Assist in the production and distribution of BGA marketing materials;
  • Process donations and acknowledgements; and
  • Assist the Director of Development with general administrative tasks and other assignments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five years of fundraising experience;
  • Experience with individual giving required;
  • Experience with corporate, foundation and government fundraising preferred.
  • Experience in organizing events preferred;
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, self-starter.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required;
  • Successful candidates must possess extreme attention to detail;
  • This is a high volume development department; speed and accuracy are critical;
  • Experience with database, word-processing and spreadsheet software;
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people on teams;
  • Experience in developing outreach materials;
  • Experience in copyediting, with attention to proper usage of grammar and syntax;
  • Background or interest in labor, environmental movements a plus; and
  • Bachelor's degree required.
