Job Opening: Conference and Events Program Director Washington DC July 07, 2010

BlueGreen Alliance (BGA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced person to join our team as a Conference and Events Program Director to be based in Washington DC. The Conference and Events Program Director will work in close coordination with BGA's Executive Director, Deputy Director, Legislative Director, Development Director, consultants and other staff.  The main function of the position will be to manage the overall coordination and execution of the 2011 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference, with a focus on program development and management of the Conference Steering Committee, as well as assist with additional events that come up throughout the year.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:

§  Develop and execute an overall plan for the 2011 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference, in cooperation with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, Development Director, consultants and other staff;

§  Develop and work with the GJGJ Steering Committee in managing the overall direction of the conference, content development (including an RfP), and keynote speaker engagement;

§  Work with the GJGJ Steering Committee and BGA staff and consultants to staff, coordinate and move forward various components of 2011 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference planning, including Green Jobs Expo, Advocacy Day and Media;

§  Work with BGA's Field Director to develop and execute an outreach plan to ensure the participation of labor, environmental and community organizations, business and industry, federal, state and local agencies and others to the conference;  

§  Work with BGA Executive Director, Development Director and Deputy Director to develop fundraising plan, assist with outreach to potential funders and sponsors;

§  Ensure regular communications and updates on the planning to GJGJ Steering Committee, BGA staff and partners;

§  Be point in planning and executing additional BGA events as needed;

§  Develop relationships with the broader labor and environmental community in Washington DC.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors' or Masters' Degree in an appropriate field.  Minimum three to five years of prior relevant job experience (post college).  Experience with or knowledge about the environmental and labor movements is a significant plus.

The individual should also have high competency in the following areas: 

  • Significant organizing experience;
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and implement large-scale events that involve mobilizing a broad coalition of partner groups;
  • Strong ability to connect with and enlist the support of diverse movements and organizations;
  • Experience in conference/convention planning a plus;
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills; 
  • Experience with fundraising and marketing;
  • Detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks and priorities;
  • Ability to work collaboratively, internally and with organizational partners;
  • Willingness and ability to live in DC area and to travel periodically;
  • A deep commitment to the mission of the Blue Green Alliance.

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience
