In March 2009, Indiana labor unions and environmental organizations came together to form the Indiana Blue Green Alliance, which is dedicated to building a clean energy economy in Indiana that creates good jobs and protects the environment. The Indiana BGA brings together the United Steelworker District 7, Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter, Save the Dunes Council, Communication Workers of America District 4, Indiana Laborers' District Council, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and SEIU Indiana/Illinois State Council.

A report released by the Blue Green Alliance in 2007 said that the state of Indiana stands to gain nearly 40,000 manufacturing jobs by implementing 15 percent renewable energy standard. The state BGA is advocating a state renewable energy standard and updated residential energy codes to make buildings more efficient - thereby creating jobs while seeking to reduce global warming pollution.
