Minnesota Welcomes 4,000 Workers to the Green Economy After Union Wins Green Cleaning Contract March 04, 2010
Minnesota gained 4,000 more workers in the green economy after SEIU Local 26 Janitors won a new contract that supports Day-Shift and Green Cleaning. Workers also won improved health insurance, as well as a move toward 8-hour, full-time jobs by 2012 and guaranteed job security when buildings choose to switch to cleaning companies.
Recently, the Blue Green Alliance and SEIU Local 26 released a report showing the cost and health benefits of green cleaning in Minneapolis Saint Paul. The "Clean Sweep" report illustrates huge cost and energy savings that can be reached by transitioning to Day Shift Cleaning and shows how switching to green chemicals can reduce the exposure of janitors and building tenants to harmful chemicals.
Congratulations to the 4,000 new workers in Minnesota's green economy!
