Congressman Doyle Joins With Labor and Environmental Partnership to Announce Legislation to Create and Keep 21st Century Jobs

United Steelworkers International President Leo W. Gerard, PennFuture Vice President Heather Sage and Congressman Doyle to Call for Investments and Policies to Get America Working Again

PITTSBURGH, PA - Congressman Mike Doyle and labor and environmental leaders from the BlueGreen Alliance - a national partnership of labor unions and environmental organizations - today announced the introduction of the American Energy, Infrastructure, and Manufacturing (AIM) Jobs Act. United Steelworkers (USW) International President Leo W. Gerard - a co-founder of the BlueGreen Alliance - and PennFuture Vice President Heather Sage joined Doyle at a press conference in Pittsburgh at the headquarters of USW focused on millions of potential jobs that could be created if the AIM Jobs Act were passed by Congress and signed by the President.

AIM focuses on the jobs and industries of the 21st century - renewable energy, manufacturing, transportation, and modernizing schools and other public buildings, homes, and businesses to be more energy efficient - to put millions of Americans to work.

"By providing essential investments and national policies that spur U.S. demand and create good jobs, AIM can promote economic recovery and help struggling workers," said Congressman Doyle. "We can create millions of good jobs, win the global competition for clean energy and energy-efficient green technology, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and ensure we uphold our promise to leave the next generation a better economic and environmental legacy."

AIM is broken down into key job creating areas: growing clean energy; making buildings more energy efficient; revitalizing American manufacturing; moving power and connecting the country; rebuilding roads and railways and driving 21st century vehicles; and improving job quality, the health of our communities - and the environment we share. The plan complements President Obama's American Jobs Act, which - along with the infrastructure and school modernization investments - focuses on much needed employment boosts such as unemployment insurance and payroll tax deductions. The AIM Act includes many of the policies included in the Jobs21! Blueprint to Solve the Jobs Crisis.

"To make jobs a top priority, we need a plan for good jobs in the 21st century economy, and the American Energy, Infrastructure, and Manufacture Jobs Act can solve America's jobs crisis," said Gerard. "Smart polices and targeted investments in the key industries of the 21st century are already saving and creating jobs, and the have the potential to create millions more. For America to win the jobs and industries of the future, we need action now, and we join with Congressman Doyle today to say that the AIM Act is just the plan we need."

"Americans and Pennsylvanians deserve clean air, water, and soil," said Sage. "We can have safer and healthier communities by passing strong legislation like this to capture the millions of good jobs in the industries of the 21st century before our global competitors do."
