COPENHAGEN (December 19, 2009) – After world leaders reached an agreement in Copenhagen, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director David Foster:

“We commend world leaders for reaching this historic agreement to combat global climate change and to begin the work of building a new, green economy. It is imperative that as we move forward in negotiating the details of a global treaty, that governments focus on creating good jobs in every corner of the world.

“The next critical step in this process is passage of strong climate and clean energy jobs legislation by the United States Senate. The momentum achieved in Copenhagen means the Senate must act in early 2010.

“The United States now has the opportunity to establish itself as a global leader in the development and production of clean energy technologies while protecting the environment for future generations. Most importantly, we can set about the business of rapidly putting Americans back to work by embracing the challenge of solving climate change.”
