Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

New Regional Task Force to Target Embodied Carbon Added to Pacific Coast Collaborative

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee announced at COP26 in Glasgow the formation of a new regional task force to reduce embodied carbon in construction materials. In order to ensure our state leads this important work, the BlueGreen Alliance looks forward to engaging with the Governor’s office to advance these policies here at home. Washington is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for low-carbon materials and create a new generation of high-road manufacturing careers.

Wisconsin Labor, Environmental Leaders, Elected Officials Call on Congress to Invest in Water Infrastructure

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) and the BlueGreen Alliance today were joined by officials from the Eau Claire City Council; La Crosse County Board; Wisconsin Conservation Voters; the United Association Union of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Welders, and Service Techs (UA); and Wisconsin Environment for a virtual press briefing on the need for federal investment to ensure all Wisconsinites have access to clean drinking water.

Comments on Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement Proposed Sunrise Wind Farm Project on the Northeast Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf

The BlueGreen Alliance appreciates the opportunity to submit these comments to inform the preparation by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (“BOEM”) of an Environmental Impact statement (“EIS or “Draft EIS”) as part of its review of a construction and operations plan submitted by Sunrise Wind LLC and provided project information.

Energy and Commerce Reconciliation Package Makes Great Strides to Improve Critical Infrastructure, Gaps Remain

The House Energy and Commerce Committee yesterday passed its budget reconciliation package. The package funds critical infrastructure efforts such as fully replacing lead service lines, improving the energy efficiency of residential and public buildings, removing toxic chemicals from schools, modernizing hospitals, and expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. In response to the passage of the package, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh.
