The Biden administration today announced the formation of a Buy Clean Task Force, as part of a larger strategy to reinvigorate American manufacturing and reduce emissions from the industrial sector. Buy Clean promotes spending taxpayer dollars on materials that are manufactured in a cleaner, more efficient, environmentally-friendly manner.

The BlueGreen Alliance submitted comments outlining the pathways for the Federal Government to use its scale and procurement power to help achieve net-zero emissions economy-wide by no later than 2050 and launching the first-ever national Buy Clean initiative with the release of E.O. 14057, “Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability.”

On December 8, 2021, President Biden released Executive Order 14057 (EO), “Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability,” and the accompanying Federal Sustainability Plan, officially launching the first-ever national Buy Clean program. In his EO, President Biden outlined pathways for the federal government to use its scale and procurement power to help achieve net-zero emissions economy-wide by no later than 2050. Buy Clean policy is included in this strategy for the first time ever in federal procurement. 

Provisions included in the House passed Build Better Back Act (BBBA) legislation are essential to getting this job done. The bill makes an historic investment in the expansion and retooling of domestic clean energy, vehicle and component manufacturing, the transformation of our industrial sector to reduce emissions and enhance competitiveness, as well as the necessary efforts to build out robust supply chains for critical clean technologies—all while building good jobs nationwide and investing in the communities that need it most.
