Trump Scrambles to Try to Rescue Van Orden from the Consequences of His Own Votes
President Trump is visiting Chippewa Falls to stump for Rep. Derrick Van Orden (WI-3). The president and Van Orden will speak to Wisconsin farmers.
With Van Orden’s support, the Trump administration has rolled back the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which would have helped lower electricity bill costs for farmers at a time when utility bills are skyrocketing. Additionally, the actions of the Trump administration and GOP Congress—including Rep. Van Orden—have driven costs up across the economy for everything from healthcare to electricity to gasoline.
In response to the visit, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Senior Wisconsin Policy Manager Carly Ebben Eaton:
“Trump isn’t going to save Derrick Van Orden from the votes he took to kill jobs and raise electricity prices and health care costs for farmers and workers in the Third District. Derrick Van Orden failed to stand up for workers and farmers when they needed him most. He had his chance to support hard-working Wisconsinites, and he gave it up to curry favor with the president and vote to hand billionaires massive tax cuts at the expense of the people he was elected to serve.”
