Jazz M. Lewis, Legislative Director at the BlueGreen Alliance, infuses worker and climate priorities into trade negotiations and policies.

Jazz joins the BlueGreen Alliance after eight years of serving as a Senior Policy Advisor in the office of U.S. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, focusing on issues of transportation, housing, small business, and labor concerns. Jazz’s contributions were instrumental in the passage of the COVID-19 CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act. Jazz also led political efforts as Executive Director of the campaign, overseeing operations, budgets, and strategic outreach. Jazz has also served in leadership roles in various House, Senate, and Presidential races.

Jazz also serves as the Majority Whip of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing a diverse community of 135,000 citizens. In this role, he provides strategic leadership and oversight for the state’s budget, championing legislation on criminal justice reform, transit-oriented development, and tax provisions benefiting working families.

Jazz began his career as a community and labor organizer with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). He holds a Master of Public Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. Jazz lives in Bowie, Maryland, with his wife Aurin and their son Miguel.
