$2 Billion for Buy Clean Pilot Programs Under Threat During Reconciliation

May 1, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – The U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) voted yesterday in favor of a reconciliation bill proposal that would cut all unspent money for federal Buy Clean pilot programs.

Buy Clean is a policy that has promoted spending taxpayer dollars on materials that are manufactured in a cleaner, more efficient manner. More than $2 billion for the federal Buy Clean Initiative is at risk of cancellation.

Following the release of the initial bill text, the BlueGreen Alliance issued a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“Republican leadership and the Trump administration are determined to strip any climate-friendly funding from the books, but they are too shortsighted to see how it hurts their own campaign promises. Buy Clean isn’t just about reducing pollution—it’s about growing domestic manufacturing.

“Buy Clean has the potential not only to cut down on industrial emissions, but it can also bolster U.S. supply chains that are more often the cleanest on the planet and staffed with good-paying, union jobs. Not only that, the money in these pilots is also helping to fund critical construction projects in districts across the country. This is an early but clear sign that Congressional Republicans intend to cut spending that will deliver real benefits to the American people in order to fund tax cuts for billionaires.”
