Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project Falls to Trump Attacks

June 10, 2025

Atlantic Shores filed to terminate its 1.5-gigawatt offshore wind project yesterday with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU).

The termination filing comes after the Trump administration took major steps to dismantle the domestic offshore wind industry, including:

  • An executive order that paused all offshore wind leasing across the country;
  • Significant staff cuts at the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Management;
  • Rescinding the federal permit for the Atlantic Shores project slated for development off the coast of Atlantic City; and
  • President Trump’s budget reconciliation legislation moving forward in Congress, which effectively terminates tax incentives for offshore wind deployment to pay for extending tax cuts for the wealthy.

NJBPU also canceled its award for its fourth offshore wind solicitation due to the hostile actions of the administration.

Following the termination filing, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“Trump continues trying to destroy the future of offshore wind in the United States. The potential of this clean power source is being realized around the world, but because of President Trump’s sabotage, our country is sacrificing good jobs, lower energy prices, and benefits to countless communities in New Jersey and across the country. What a disgrace.
