Latest Trump Attack Strips Union Workers at EPA of their Fundamental Rights

August 8, 2025

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cancelled contracts and will no longer recognize unions representing its workers, including the American Federation of Government Employees, according to a memo obtained by the press.

The announcement comes after a legal battle challenging President Trump’s Executive Order barring collective bargaining at several federal agencies.

In response to the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance release the following statement from Executive Vice President Eric Steen:

“The dedicated public servants at the EPA protect the health of all of us and the environment every day. This latest attack would strip them of their fundamental First Amendment right to be in a union and collectively bargain.

“Unions give working people a strong voice, collective might, and the ability to build a movement to fight back against attacks from the rich and powerful. That is why they are always among the first targets of authoritarians like Donald Trump. We stand with the union workers at the EPA who will fight this egregious overreach of power every step of the way.”
