New York Empire Wind Project to Resume Construction
Offshore wind developer Equinor announced it would immediately resume construction on the Empire Wind project off the coast of New York state. The construction was stalled by a stop order from the Trump administration.
Empire Wind is an 830-megawatt project that employs 1,500 construction workers. The offshore wind site has the potential to power more than 500,000 new homes and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
Following the announcement the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Vice President of Federal Affairs Dr. Katie Harris:
“After weeks of uncertainty, we’re happy that the workers employed on the Empire Wind project are heading back to the site. This project has already created hundreds of jobs and injected a huge amount of private investment into the local economy. Prioritizing offshore wind helps secure America’s energy independence and reduces energy prices for working families. However, Trump’s chaotic energy policy threatens thousands of good-paying offshore wind jobs and risks $25 billion worth of investments into the U.S. economy.
“Our nation needs offshore wind projects like Empire Wind to secure our clean energy future and create good middle-class jobs for workers.”
