Trump Tries to Save Face in State of the Union while Approval Plumets
President Donald Trump tonight delivered his State of the Union address before Congress. The speech comes amid rapidly falling approval ratings, as recent polling has shown that voters, including those who voted for him, disapprove of Trump’s actions in nearly every issue area, particularly those related to inflation and the economy, which Trump campaigned heavily on fixing.
With the support of the GOP Congress, the first year of Trump’s second term has resulted in:
- Almost 7% higher energy bills across the country for families;
- The destruction of key policies and investments meant to promote cutting edge domestic manufacturing;
- The loss of over 100,000 manufacturing jobs, including 10,000 clean manufacturing jobs and $35 billion in clean energy projects,
- A stagnant job market, with underperforming job growth throughout 2025;
- An ongoing vendetta against the offshore wind industry at a time when energy demand is soaring; and
- Millions of workers and families put at risk due to the gutting of essential protections on the job, including those in chemical plants and coal mines.
Following the speech, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“The United States’ Grifter in Chief Donald Trump just delivered another speech bragging about things he didn’t do and lying about the things he did. His rambling address tonight makes it ever clearer that he is completely out of touch with working people. Trump and the GOP were elected to work for the people and to fix the economy. Instead, they’ve sent jobs and investment overseas and have the audacity to tell workers that it’s good for them.”
