Trump’s EPA and DOE to Illegally Terminate Union Contracts

March 13, 2026

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are reportedly canceling their collective bargaining agreements with the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU).

This follows President Trump’s Executive Order in March 2025 to strip civil service workers of their union protections and collective bargaining rights. Litigation around this Executive Order is ongoing, as a federal district court judge ruled it is likely illegal.

Following the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“This is another example of the Trump administration’s brazen disregard for workers’ rights. They do not care about the law and due process; they only care about the swift enactment of their authoritarian agenda. This blatantly illegal cancelation of valid union contracts hurts our democracy and the livelihoods of countless career civil service employees who swear an oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution rather than serve an imperial leader.”
