WASHINGTON, DC (March 4, 2013) – Reacting to President Obama’s decision today to nominate Gina McCarthy to replace Lisa Jackson as the next U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator and Ernest Moniz to replace Steven Chu as the Department of Energy Secretary, BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director David Foster released the following statement:

“President Obama’s decision to nominate Gina McCarthy and Ernest Moniz continues to lay groundwork toward policies that will do more to reduce carbon pollution and expand investments in renewable energy, while better preparing us all for the threat of climate change and creating good, American jobs.

“In particular, the BlueGreen Alliance and our partners have appreciated the way in which Ms. McCarthy has worked with us over the years to not only address climate change and clean air, but to also better understand the needs and impact of plant workers and surrounding communities.

“Both McCarthy and Moniz have the right expertise to lead their agencies that will have a pivotal role establishing policies that will protect the environment, public health for years to come and expand vital clean energy investments. We look forward to swift confirmations so that we can get to work preparing for the challenges and opportunities climate change presents to us.”
