BlueGreen Alliance Statement on Trump Administration’s FY2018 Budget

May 23, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 23, 2017) Following the release of President Donald Trump’s Fiscal Year 2018 Budget today, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Kim Glas:

“The President’s budget is a travesty. At a time when this nation should be creating good jobs and building a cleaner economy, this budget instead slashes funding for programs that spur job growth and ensure environmental and worker safety protections.

“In addition, despite repeatedly promising to help workers impacted by the decline of the coal industry, President Trump’s budget dramatically reduces funding for or eliminates key programs that are helping communities rebuild after the loss of coal mines and coal-fired power plants.

“We can and should do better. We urge Congress to reject this budget and to invest in agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Labor, which are working hard to protect Americans on the job and in our communities, and to ensure that coal-impacted regions receive the assistance they need to create good jobs and economic growth.”
