BlueGreen Alliance to Congress: Get to Work Repairing America or You Might Be Out of a Job in November

While Americans wait for action to create good jobs, anti-government Conservatives have ensured that Congress has sat on its hands for four years. That’s long enough.

WASHINGTON, DC (April 4, 2014) –The Bureau of Labor Statistics today released the unemployment figures for the month of March, which showed the U.S. gained 192,000 jobs and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.7 percent. The following is a statement from BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director David Foster:

“Today’s job gains show continued growth for the American economy, but we can and should be doing more for American workers. We can’t be complacent—there are still millions of Americans out of work, and we have the opportunity to get them back into the workforce right now, but only if we take steps to address climate change and create family-supporting jobs by repairing America’s infrastructure.

“Passing a fully funded five-year Transportation Bill, building on our clean energy successes by renewing the Production Tax Credit for wind energy, and implementing a common-sense idea like the National Infrastructure Development Bank, are all things Congress should do to spur job growth, reduce the pollution driving climate change, and ensure our communities are ready for its impacts.

“While Americans wait for action to create good jobs, anti-government Conservatives have ensured that Congress has sat on its hands for four years, blocking any attempts at progress and putting politics ahead of the interests of the American people and future generations. That’s long enough. Our message to the obstructionists in Congress today is clear: Get to work repairing America or risk having the American people put you out of a job in November.”
