Company joins diverse corporate coalition aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental solutions that put Americans back to work in good jobs

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (April 19, 2012) EVRAZ North America — one of North America’s leading steel companies — recently joined the Corporate Advisory Council of the BlueGreen Alliance. The company joins a diverse coalition of companies embracing policies that build a stronger, more sustainable marketplace and advising the BlueGreen Alliance in its efforts to expand the number and quality of jobs being created in the clean economy.

“EVRAZ is North America’s largest producer of rail for energy-efficient freight transport,” said Mike Rehwinkel, President and Chief Executive Officer – EVRAZ North America. “We also manufacture steel plate for many of America’s wind towers and tubular products for energy exploration and transmission. We are pleased to join with the United Steelworkers in this unique coalition that is working to expand the number and quality of environmentally responsible jobs in the 21st century.”

The BlueGreen Alliance is a partnership of labor unions and environmental organizations launched in 2006 as a non-profit initiative of the United Steelworkers (USW) and the Sierra Club. Membership has grown to include eight major U.S. labor unions and four of America’s most influential environmental organizations representing more than 14 million members and supporters.

More than 1,000 USW members work in EVRAZ North America facilities in Pueblo, Colo., Calgary, Alberta, and Regina, Saskatchewan.

“Steelworkers work every day in companies that are producing critical elements in building a clean economy — whether the steel that comprises a wind turbine or the products that will reduce emissions from our vehicles,” said Leo W. Gerard, International President of the United Steelworkers (USW). “EVRAZ is an excellent example of a company that is embracing a greener economy while providing good jobs in communities across North America.”

The BlueGreen Alliance’s Corporate Advisory Council was formed in 2009. The Council unites a group of businesses — multi-national corporations, leading businesses in emerging green technologies and investors — under a single umbrella in support of sustainable jobs.

“Companies of every size and industry are leading the way to a cleaner, more efficient and more competitive U.S. economy, and EVRAZ is among those ahead of the pack,” said David Foster, Executive Director of the BlueGreen Alliance. “The BlueGreen Alliance is proud to have the support of our diverse Corporate Advisory Council as we jointly work to put Americans to work in a clean economy.”

This announcement comes before the start of the Good Jobs, Green Jobs Midwest Conference — the final in a series of four Regional Conferences sponsored by the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation discussing strategies for growing green jobs throughout America. The final Good Jobs, Green Jobs Regional Conference will take place in Detroit May 10-11. More information about the conferences is available at www.greenjobsconference.org.
