House Takes Action to Erode Bedrock Worker, Environmental Protections

The BlueGreen Alliance's Executive Director Kim Glas responded to the U.S. House passing the REINS Act, a bill that will erode bedrock worker and environmental safeguards.

WASHINGTON, DC (January 5, 2017) – Following the passage of H.R. 26, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act of 2017, by the U.S. House of Representatives earlier today, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Kim Glas:

“The REINS Act will do nothing to keep Americans safe on the job, nor will it create and sustain quality jobs for workers.

“Instead, it will ensure that politics dictate vital worker and environmental safeguards—ignoring facts, experts in their field, and the best scientific research and evidence. This law would erode bedrock worker and environmental protections that ensure health and safety on the job and in communities—many of which also have a long track record of creating quality jobs and boosting economic growth.

“We urge the Senate to protect workers and our environment by rejecting the REINS Act.”
