Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

BlueGreen Alliance Welcomes Introduction of U.S. Sen. Duckworth’s Marshall Plan for Coal Country Act

U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill) today introduced a bill aimed at supporting communities and workers impacted by the nation’s transition to cleaner cheaper fuels. The bill, entitled “the Marshall Plan for Coal Country Act,” will provide healthcare for coal workers, establish a plan to stabilize coal communities’ economies when a plant or mine closes, and provides access to free higher education to coal workers and their families.

BlueGreen Alliance Welcomes Release of National Economic Transition Platform

Alongside the BlueGreen Alliance and partners and allies from coal communities across the country, Just Transition Fund today released the National Economic Transition platform. The platform is the product of a year-long collaboration, bringing together local, tribal, and labor leaders with public, private, and non-profit partners to develop a policy framework and priorities to invest in communities and workers hit hard by the decline of the coal industry.

Labor, Environmental Leaders Release Blueprint to Rebuild and Retool American Manufacturing and Aid America’s Economic Recovery

Leaders from the BlueGreen Alliance—a national partnership of labor unions and environmental organizations—today released a national agenda to rebuild American manufacturing, cut pollution, and create and sustain the good-paying jobs necessary to rebuild the middle class and help fix America’s beleaguered economy.
