September Unemployment Numbers More Proof Congress Must Act on President’s Jobs Plan
After the Labor Department reported that the U.S. gained more than 100,000 jobs in September, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director David Foster saying that Congress must get to work on the American Jobs Act.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 7, 2011) Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics unveiled the September unemployment statistics, showing the economy gained 103,000 jobs but maintained an unemployment rate of 9.1 percent. The following is a statement from BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director David Foster:
“While it is good news the economy gained 103,000 jobs in September, it’s clear that Congressional inaction on jobs is hurting America’s economic growth. While millions of Americans are still unemployed, Congress has taken no action to pass the President’s jobs plan, a plan that will grow good jobs by rebuilding America’s infrastructure and modernizing our public schools to be efficient, safe, and healthy for students.
“This year, Congress has been focused on everything but creating jobs for the tens of millions of unemployed or underemployed Americans. It’s time Congress puts this critical need on the front burner by passing the American Jobs Act and other important investments and policies to maintain and create good 21st century jobs.”
