Labor and Environmental leaders joined Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL), Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), and Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) today to call on Congress to make bold investments in the build back better budget that deliver for workers, communities, and climate change.  

Today, the BlueGreen Alliance and the League of Conservation Voters held a press conference at Flagstaff High School featuring Flagstaff City Mayor Paul Deasy, a representative from the Office of Congressmember Tom O’Halleran, a school district facilities professional, community leaders, and advocates to call on Congress to act now to support a reconciliation budget bill that will fund the bold climate investments to help states, cities, and school districts expand clean energy to address the climate crisis.

Today, the BlueGreen Alliance—an organization that unites labor unions and environmental organizations to solve today’s environmental challenges in ways that create and maintain quality jobs and build a clean, thriving, and equitable economy—released a new video advertisement uplifting the voices of workers from across the country.

America’s energy transition is well underway, but a transition that is fair for workers and communities isn’t something that will happen organically. Prioritizing and targeting federal resources to workers and communities in places impacted by this shift must be a deliberate choice.

For America, By America” Campaign Will Reach Out to Working People in Key States to Build Support for Passage of a Bold Jobs and Economic Investment Package

The BlueGreen Alliance, joined by some of the nation’s largest labor unions and environmental organizations, launched For America, By America—a campaign urging Congress to ignite a new era of investments needed to Build Back Better, including critical investments to create good-paying manufacturing jobs.

A robust manufacturing sector is vital to meeting state, national, and global climate goals. Achieving net-zero emissions economy-wide requires accelerating innovation in advanced manufacturing and ramping up the production of low-carbon materials and sustainable energy technologies. Maintaining and growing local manufacturing is also critical for a fair and resilient economy. Manufacturing jobs are typically stable, living wage jobs that are the foundation for a strong middle class.

This report presents a framework for understanding the potential for high road economic development in zero-emission transportation and highlights workforce standards that may be adopted by employers and/or public agencies when developing program rules and procurement requirements.

The omnibus commerce, climate, and energy finance bill (HF 6) passed by the Minnesota legislature and signed into law by Gov. Walz included important provisions to jumpstart Buy Clean/Buy Fair in the state. Buy Clean is a way to guarantee that products and materials that are used for public projects—like infrastructure improvements—are the cleanest and most sustainable available.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics today released its monthly employment situation and found the U.S. economy gained 850,000 jobs and the unemployment rate was 5.9% in June, a promising trend compared to recent months.
