The U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) announced yesterday it would cancel leases for two offshore wind projects. Bluepoint Wind off the coast of New York and Golden State Wind off the coast of California are the latest projects to suffer attacks from the Trump administration.

Early this week, federal regulators quietly delayed the implementation of the Silica Rule indefinitely. The Silica Rule was created to protect workers from high levels of silica dust—a significant contributor to black lung disease and silicosis, both incurable respiratory illnesses caused by breathing in toxic dust. The delay of this rule will result in workers continuing to be exposed to high levels of this dangerous substance.

However, jobs reports show that the U.S. manufacturing industry has lost over 100,000 manufacturing jobs across the country in the first year of President Trump’s second term.

General Motors (GM) announced it would lay off 1,200 workers at its all-electric Factory Zero plant in Detroit, Michigan and 550 workers at the electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Lordstown, Ohio—a joint venture with Ultium. Workers at these plants are represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW). 

Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed AB 1280 and SB 513 into law, two major steps forward to bolster California’s clean energy economy and strengthen worker protections. These laws will draw investments to decarbonize heavy industry, boost the state’s energy resilience, and keep businesses competitive while creating high-road, union jobs.
