Workers Need the PRO Act to Defend Their Rights

Recognizing the importance of defending the right of working people to organize and form unions at this moment, U.S. Representatives Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, reintroduced the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO)…

On behalf of the BlueGreen Alliance (BGA), our partners, and the millions of members and supporters they represent, we thank you for the opportunity to comment on the notice…

Economic Benefits of Workplace Heat Standards

Employers in the United States have a legal and moral imperative to protect the lives and well-being of their workers by providing safe and healthy working conditions. Commonsense protections such as water, rest, shade, training, and first aid procedures are crucial for meeting this central obligation to heat-exposed workers.

Congress’s Short-Sighted Repeal of the Methane Waste Emissions Charge Will Harm Communities

Congress passed Congressional Review Act (CRA) legislation yesterday, repealing the U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Waste Emissions Charge (WEC).  WEC—a rule established under the Inflation Reduction Act’s Methane Emissions Reduction Program—reinforced the immediate need for methane mitigation to curb climate change and protect communities and workers from harmful pollution. Together with the $1.5 billion in…

Trump Disregards Workers with Orders for Mass Firings

Today, President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to develop plans—known as Agency Reductions in Force and Reorganization Plans (ARRPs)—for mass layoffs at their organizations and submit them to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) no later than March 13, 2025.

Comments on Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for California Offshore Wind

We thank the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) for the opportunity to comment on the draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for California offshore wind. We appreciate BOEM’s draft PEIS analyzing the potential impacts of offshore wind energy development in the five lease areas off California’s coast. The final sale notice for these areas included lease stipulations designed to promote the development of a robust domestic supply chain, advance flexibility in transmission planning, and create good paying, union jobs. BGA urges BOEM to include more robust stipulations and bidding credits in its future leases and consider our recommendations in this letter.

Russell Vought’s Confirmation is a Disaster for Workers and the Environment

The U.S. Senate confirmed Russell Vought as the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) yesterday. While he was still the unconfirmed OMB nominee, Vought orchestrated a sweeping freeze on federal grant and loan payments. This funding freeze halted investments authorized by Congress, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS and Science Act. The pause also impacted public service programs that the country depends on.

BLUEGREEN ALLIANCE RESPONSE TO NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULEMAKING: HEAT INJURY AND ILLNESS PREVENTION IN OUTDOOR AND INDOOR WORK SETTINGS

In these comments, BGA provides a list of recommendations for improving OSHA’s Proposed Heat Standard. January 29, 2025 BGA applauds the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in its progress towards establishing a first-ever federal protective heat standard for reducing heat-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in the workplace. With global temperatures rising— and 2024…

Navigating the Build America, Buy America Act

The BlueGreen Alliance Foundation (BGAF) and Ecomedes today hosted a webinar exploring the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act. BABA—part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)—strengthens and expands “Buy America” requirements for federally financed infrastructure projects. This new policy has significantly increased the need for U.S. manufacturers to identify their products as BABA compliant. The webinar highlighted and built upon the BlueGreen Alliance’s “Making BABA Work for American Manufacturers” guide, released in December.
