Biden-Harris Administration Announces New Executive Order Focused on Worker Freedoms During Event in Michigan
A newly signed Executive Order by President Biden will create a task force led by the National Economic Council and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to ensure the administration is doing all it can under current law and going further to specify, “a clear list of labor standards that all federal agencies should look to prioritize.” President Biden announced the new order today in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) Local 190 union hall.
The order builds on the Good Jobs Initiative, a framework that outlines the essential principles of a good job, including recruitment and hiring, pay and benefits, job security and career advancement, collective bargaining rights, and working conditions. The principles also prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to expand access to stable and secure jobs, especially for those from underserved communities.
Following the speech, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Michigan Senior Policy Manager Frank Houston:
“We applaud President Biden and the Biden-Harris administration for their work to stand up for the freedom of workers and the right to organize. Today’s Executive Order will empower workers, create more pathways for successful careers, and maximize the benefits of the historic investments the Biden-Harris administration signed into law.”
