BlueGreen Alliance Statement on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Draft Supplemental Methane Rule

November 11, 2022

President Biden today announced the release of a draft supplemental U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule to curb methane emissions at oil and gas facilities. The announcement came as the world leaders gather in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt at the United States Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties. In response to the release of the rule, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“Methane is a greenhouse gas more than 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Preventing methane leaks in the oil and gas industry is not only a major win in the fight against climate change, but an opportunity to create good-paying jobs and protect the health of workers and our communities. We welcome the EPA’s continued efforts to grow good jobs and protect workers and the environment.”
