June 1, 2022

A letter jointly written by the AFL-CIO, the Environmental Defense Fund, the United Steelworkers, and the BlueGreen Alliance and signed by 20 organizations and 35 individuals sent to Dr. Michal Ilana Freedhoff, Assistant Administrator of the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, debunked recent proposals made by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) to alter the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The ACC is a trade group for the chemicals industry.

The letter concluded, “Workers lives are at stake. We urge you to reject proposals from the chemical industry that would undermine workplace safety by skewing measurement data, misinterpreting OSHA requirements, and relying on voluntary measures.”
