The Trump Administration Files to Revoke SouthCoast Wind Permit
The Trump administration filed a motion in federal court to revoke approval for the SouthCoast Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.
The $6 billion 141 wind turbine farm has been fully vetted over four years to get permitted and could now arbitrarily lose approval for its construction and operations plan. This is the last major federal permit wind projects need before putting turbines into the water and was awarded to SouthCoast Wind after years of careful review.
SouthCoast wind is expected to generate 1,200 megawatts of clean, renewable electricity to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with the eventual potential to generate double that amount of energy and 15,000 direct jobs.
This is the second fully approved offshore wind permit the Trump administration is seeking to remand.
Following the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“Trump is threatening good jobs while he pursues his senseless vendetta against offshore wind. The SouthCoast Wind and US Wind projects are critical to the future of domestic energy so the country can meet growing demand. These offshore wind projects will lower utility costs for working families and boost local economies by creating good jobs. We should be supporting them, not stopping them.”
