Courts Put Down Trump’s Attempt to Stop East Coast Offshore Wind Projects

February 3, 2026

Federal courts allowed the Sunrise Wind project off the coast of New York to continue yesterday after the Trump administration halted construction.

This is the fifth project to win an injunction after the Trump administration issued stop work orders on the offshore wind sites in December, citing illegitimate national security concerns. The credibility of that claim was questioned as all the projects were approved in coordination with the U.S. Department of Defense.

Following the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance issued a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“We knew these claims were bogus from the beginning and they were a poor attempt for President Trump to keep his ridiculous vendetta against clean energy alive. Offshore wind is good for our country and we’re happy that the workers caught in the middle of these attacks can finally get back to work.”
