Trump Admin Attempts to Remand US Wind Permit in Court
The Trump administration filed in federal court to cancel the US Wind project permit late on Friday, September 12.
The developer’s permit to build its wind farm off the coast of Maryland was approved in 2024. The project was expected to generate enough power for over 700,000 homes.
Requesting to vacate the US Wind permit is Trump’s latest action to stop domestic offshore wind development.
Following the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance issued a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“Trump’s war on wind is dangerous for our country. We need more energy solutions— not less—if we are going to meet rising demand. The administration’s efforts to upend the offshore wind industry are throwing the energy sector into disorder, and workers and families are caught in the middle. Without this wind project, utility costs will soar for everyone in the region, jobs will be lost, and trust in the federal government will be even further eroded as developers worry that a legally issued permit cannot be relied upon under this administration.”
