Trump Administration Tries to Slash Chemical Protections
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a rollback of key provisions for evaluating chemicals under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) today.
The Trump administration proposal would eliminate important evaluation measures that limit exposures to the most dangerous chemicals. Trump’s EPA would also eliminate the Biden-era chemical protections for workers, including by pulling back on provisions that recognized that workers are not always provided with adequate personal protective equipment.
Following the proposal announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“The Trump administration is endangering the health of the American people by stripping TSCA of its purpose: to protect the health of Americans by controlling the different uses of the most hazardous chemicals. This new proposal is especially threatening to the health of workers, who are often the most exposed to dangerous substances. This is another example of how the administration prioritizes corporations over the health of the American people, including the workers who are exposed to chemicals on the job.”
