Trump’s First 100 Days in Office Lays the Groundwork for a Government that No Longer Works for the People
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump celebrated the first 100 days of his second term in office today.
Since he took the oath of office, Trump has put America on the path to a recession, gutted our government’s capacity to serve the public good, assaulted workers’ rights, and punished his political enemies.
Some of the most overreaching executive actions include:
- Gutting the federal workforce and funding for critical government programs that protect and help working people;
- Freezing or killing key investments in clean energy and manufacturing that were creating good-paying jobs for workers across the country;
- Pausing all federal leasing for offshore wind projects;
- Enacting, then pausing, sweeping tariffs on the entire world, without a strategy on how to protect the U.S. economy and bolster domestic manufacturing;
- Attacking worker and communities by gutting the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health;
- Gutting protections for the country’s air, water, and public lands; and
- Reportedly canceling federal funding for clean manufacturing projects, threatening domestic supply chains and jobs for rural communities.
To hold the president accountable for his executive actions, the BlueGreen Alliance issued the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:
“Trump has ignored the U.S. constitution, defied the courts, weakened worker protections, incited a trade war, undermined the most climate progress we’ve made in decades, and put us on a path to a recession. All in just 100 days. He’s touting his legacy today, which by any fair measure is chaos and a weakened country.
“These 100 days have been an attack on our rights, our communities, our jobs, and our economy. To add insult to injury, he’s telling you it’s what’s best for the country and this is short-term pain. Don’t believe his lies. Trump, Elon Musk, and his billionaire buddies are setting up an even more rigged economy that benefits them at our expense.
“But the people are speaking up and standing up for fundamental rights and for a better future for workers and the planet. This week workers and families will be in the streets on May Day to show Donald Trump we don’t buy his B.S.”
