Alaa Kamel joins BGA with almost 10 years’ experience in the labor movement. Her activism began with the Egyptian revolution, and then transitioned to working in the US. She has previously worked for SEIU Local 1, Local 721, and the international. She also worked for AFSCME International covering the behavioral health industry across the US. She has experience as a researcher, policy analyst, organizer, and has worn various campaigner hats. She has worked on higher education, property services, behavioral health, homeless issues, housing policy, and is excited to transition to working on the nexus of environment and labor.

She has her Masters in Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution (with a focus on labor in the private sector) from George Mason University. She is an Egyptian Muslim woman living in Los Angeles California. Alaa is an artist, a rock climber, and a passionate world traveler.
