Rep. Tom Barrett’s Support of Trump Administration Policies Risks Tens of Thousands of Michigan Jobs

October 22, 2026
New BlueGreen Alliance research has found that because of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA)—which Rep. Tom Barrett (R-7) proudly voted for—and other Trump administration policies supported by Barrett, projects at sites across the state have been delayed, canceled, or are facing a more difficult economic landscape. This is in part because that bill made changes to existing clean energy and manufacturing tax incentives—which developers were planning on—making them harder to receive.

We’ve found:
  • 15 clean energy, manufacturing, and industrial projects at sites across the state have been delayed or canceled.
    • These delays and cancellations were expected to create 7,779 jobs that now may never materialize.
  • Sites representing $21 billion in investment are impacted by the changes to tax incentives that make them harder to receive.
    • These new tax credit restrictions could impact nearly 35,000 jobs across the state.
