Trump Administration Announces the Removal of Limitations on Power Plant Pollution

September 14, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it will remove limitations on climate pollution from power plants. The energy industry is one of the largest sources of the greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change. The move could also hamper future administrations from regulating climate pollution from power plants. The announced rollback also undoes provisions calling on utilities and states to build out workforce transition plans and partner in ensuring a fair transition for energy workers and communities.

In response to the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh.

“The Trump administration’s shameful denial of basic scientific fact endangers public health and safety and does nothing to help the workers and communities most impacted by the energy transition. We’ll add this to the tally of the many ways Trump has hurt coal communities and workers while claiming to support them.”
