Trump Administration Scrambles to Save Congressman Barrett from His Own Vote
U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright will join U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett (MI-7) today for a roundtable focused on “energy dominance.” The event comes amid backlash over energy prices and rising inflation caused by the Trump administration and GOP Congress. Last year, Barrett voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the bill and other actions by the Trump administration have driven up electricity costs—16% over the past year alone—and set back U.S. leadership in building a clean energy future here at home.
In response to the visit, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Senior Michigan Policy Manager Frank Houston:
“Trump and Rep. Barrett’s energy agenda is hurting working families. Visits like these aren’t going to save the Congressman from the votes he took to kill jobs and raise electricity prices and health care costs for workers in the Seventh District. Barrett failed to stand up for workers when they needed him most, and instead he voted with the president to hand billionaires massive tax cuts at the expense of the people he was elected to serve.”
