Trump and the GOP’s Manufacturing Jobs Bust Continues in April

May 8, 2026

The April Employment Situation Summary from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows unemployment again was stagnant, and the U.S. economy grew by an estimated 115,000 jobs. The administration downplayed the report’s findings on the U.S. manufacturing sector, which continued a downward trajectory last month and has lost 66,000 manufacturing jobs since April 2025.

Following the release of the data, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“The policies advanced by Trump and Congress have contributed to the loss of 66,000 jobs in the manufacturing sector in just one year. This dismal record is driven by the destruction of the investments that were growing manufacturing across the country building a clean energy future, and this latest report is anything but a victory for workers. It is proof positive that Trump and this Congress have cost workers tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and the opportunity to build a brighter future for their families.”
