BlueGreen Alliance Statement on GM Announcement
General Motors (GM) today announced its intention to cease production at several U.S. plants, a move that will cut jobs for thousands of American workers. Today’s announcement is the latest in a growing trend of announced automaker disinvestment in the United States.
The BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director Kim Glas:
“Today’s announcement by GM is disturbing, and represents a move in exactly the wrong direction for the future of American manufacturing.
“Automakers’ commitment to innovative vehicle technology should be judged not just on their words, but also on their commitment to building that technology in the United States and in securing and creating good, quality American jobs. Short-sighted disinvestment decisions like this will have negative impacts that will ripple throughout the supply chain, threatening American jobs in the auto sector and beyond.”
