Television and Newspaper Ads Highlight Votes in Favor of Creating Clean Energy Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 14, 2009) The BlueGreen Alliance is running television and newspaper advertisements thanking members of Congress for voting in favor of comprehensive clean energy and climate change legislation. The House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act on June 26.

The BlueGreen Alliance, in partnership with America’s Building Trades Unions, began running television ads last week in the districts of U.S. Representatives Baron Hill (IN-9), Debbie Halvorson (IL-11), Harry Teague (NM-2), Allen Boyd (FL-2), Bruce Braley (IA-1), Gary Peters (MI-9) and Mark Schauer (MI-7). BlueGreen Alliance newspapers ads are scheduled to run today in the districts of U.S. Representatives Tim Walz (MN-1), Betty Sutton (OH-13), Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) and Gary Peters (MI-9). Blue Green Alliance newspaper ads also ran in the districts of U.S. Representatives Debbie Halvorson (IL-11), Paul Kanjorski (PA-11) and Zack Space (OH-18) last week.

“It’s time to get America running on clean energy and this crucial vote put us one step closer to that clean energy future,” said David Foster, Executive Director of the BlueGreen Alliance. “A strong clean energy jobs plan will help rebuild our economy and the American manufacturing sector, and will also slash our dependence on foreign oil and fight global warming.”

The television and newspaper ads thank members of Congress for their support of this critical legislation and highlight the legislation’s potential to create new clean energy jobs. In addition, citizens are urged to call and thank members of Congress for voting in favor of the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

The BlueGreen Alliance is a national partnership of labor unions and environmental organizations dedicated to expanding the number and quality of jobs in the clean energy economy. Launched by the Sierra Club and United Steelworkers in 2006, the BlueGreen Alliance now includes the Communications Workers of America, Natural Resources Defense Council, Laborers’ International Union of North America, Service Employees International Union and Utility Workers Union of America.
