BlueGreen Alliance Welcomes Introduction of American Cars, American Jobs Act

The American Cars, American Jobs Act, introduced today by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), provides rebates for domestically manufactured vehicles, while making it more costly for companies to choose to offshore production. The bill would also defend and grow automotive jobs in the United States and encourage U.S. production of electric vehicles.

The bill comes on the heels of recent automotive plant closures and idling announcements—like GM’s November announcement that it would cease production at several facilities in the United States—and the continued flow of manufacturing investment outside of the United States.

The BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Zoe Lipman, Director, Vehicles and Advanced Transportation:

“Over the past decade, U.S. workers and manufacturers have proven that America can lead in clean vehicle technology and rebuild jobs. Now, just as the industry is being transformed worldwide, some corporations and policymakers are making decisions that put these economic and jobs gains at risk. Instead of idling cutting-edge plants, we should be spurring investment in building the vehicles and technology of the future in the United States.

“Bills like the American Cars, American Job Act, introduced by Senator Brown today, can help to secure today’s jobs while working to expand manufacturing of the next generation of advanced and electric vehicle technologies in the United States.”
