BlueGreen Alliance’s Jobs21! Initiative Calls for a National Jobs Plan for the 21st Century Economy

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 30, 2011) After President Barack Obama today renewed his administration’s commitment to building a 21st century clean energy economy and winning the jobs and industries of the future, the BlueGreen Alliance released the following statement from Executive Director David Foster:

“President Obama’s agenda to win the jobs and industries of the 21st century – reducing oil imports and clean energy innovation through advancing markets for renewables, energy efficiency and fuel efficient vehicles – is an essential step forward to reducing our dependence on foreign oil and to making America a leader in the 21st century economy.

“America needs a job plan – a plan that creates good, middle-class jobs that pay the bills for families across America. But if we don’t act now, we will miss out. China, which in 2010 once again ranked number one in clean energy investments while America slipped to third, is fast building its clean energy economy. We could and should be creating those jobs here in America.

“Last month, the BlueGreen Alliance launched Jobs21! – a campaign for creating good jobs to lead the 21st century economy. This national, grassroots initiative, spearheaded by former Congressman Mark Schauer of Michigan and former Minnesota State Senate Assistant Majority Leader and Congressional Candidate Tarryl Clark, is calling for just such a jobs plan – one that revitalizes the American economy, puts people back to work, ensures the health and safety of workers and communities, secures our nation’s energy future, and makes America competitive in the global 21st century economy.

“Today’s renewed commitment by the President to build the clean energy economy of the future is a welcome step forward in achieving that goal. Now, it’s time to get to work.”
