Working Iowans Win with Miller-Meeks Defeat

November 4, 2026

U.S. House of Representatives candidate Christina Bohannan defeated incumbent U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-1) during tonight’s midterm elections.

Miller-Meeks has been a supporter of harmful GOP-led legislation and Trump administration policies—ultimately resulting in a more difficult economic landscape for manufacturing, energy, and industrial sites across the state and negatively impacting workers in her district.

Because of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA)—which Miller-Meeks proudly voted for—four projects at sites across the state have been delayed or canceled. The law also created clean energy tax credit restrictions that could jeopardize $4.77 billion in capital investment and 2,203 jobs across the state.

Following the outcome of the election, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Iowa State Policy Manager Katie Rock:

“Iowans in District 1, and across the state, showed their collective power to prove they want more for our state. Miller-Meeks claimed to support her constituents, but her record proved otherwise. We’re excited to work with future U.S. Rep. Bohannan and other lawmakers in the state on opportunities that help working Iowans get ahead and clean up our water and air for healthier communities.”
