Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

BlueGreen Alliance Lauds Inclusion of Buy Clean/Buy Fair Provision in Minnesota Omnibus Commerce, Climate, and Energy Finance Bill

The omnibus commerce, climate, and energy finance bill (HF 6) passed by the Minnesota legislature and signed into law by Gov. Walz included important provisions to jumpstart Buy Clean/Buy Fair in the state. Buy Clean is a way to guarantee that products and materials that are used for public projects—like infrastructure improvements—are the cleanest and most sustainable available.

Labor, Business, and Environmental Leaders Call for Investments in Infrastructure, Manufacturing to Grow Family-Sustaining Jobs in Wisconsin

Leaders from the Greater West Central Wisconsin Area Labor Council, Milwaukee Area Labor Council, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 494, and Eau Claire-based solar company Solar Forma today joined together to call for investments by Congress to create family-sustaining jobs at an event hosted by Wisconsin Environment and moderated by the BlueGreen Alliance.

Vice President Kamala Harris today visited Milwaukee to tour the clean energy labs at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and participate in a roundtable on the research and development investments included in the American Jobs Plan. The plan, announced earlier this spring by President Joe Biden, is a massive economic recovery plan focused on rebuilding and modernizing the nation’s infrastructure and investing in domestic manufacturing and clean energy.

January 2021 Poll: Broad Support in Midwest for Biden Administration, Congress to Retool and Rebuild American Manufacturing

New polling released today by the BlueGreen Alliance showed voters in the Midwest vigorously support making rebuilding and retooling the American manufacturing sector a critical component of recovery efforts by Congress or the Biden administration. Hart Research conducted the poll of 1,500 registered voters in Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin from November 17-23.
