Building Clean: Improving Efficiency, Health, and Equity in Housing and Creating Good Jobs

When buildings are designed, built, and maintained to protect the health of people and the environment—and if the manufacturing of building products and materials create good-paying union jobs in the U.S.—then the wellbeing of people and communities will improve, especially for people of color. Building Clean works to increase the use of building products that are more efficient, less toxic, and manufactured in the U.S. We aim to improve the physical, environmental, and economic health of communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

Solidarity for Climate Action: The Plan We Need to Get American Manufacturing Back on Track

Manufacturing towns dot the nation, and advanced manufacturing helps provide the foundation for the economy in major regions of the United States. Industries like the steel and automotive industries supported good-paying jobs, middle-class families, and prosperous communities for decades, while also spurring American leadership in innovation and technology. That’s still true in some areas. But in many others, factories have closed or new industries offer jobs that all too often are poorly paid, insecure, or unsafe.

Leaders from the BlueGreen Alliance were joined by members of Congress today as the group released a new platform laying out proposed improvements to the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol Building. United Steelworkers (USW) International President and BlueGreen Alliance Co-Chair Roxanne Brown, Sierra Club Executive Director Loren Blackford, and BlueGreen Alliance Executive Director Jason Walsh were joined by U.S. Reps. Emilia Sykes (D-OH), Nikki Budzinski (D-IL), and Chris Deluzio (D-PA), and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) at the event, which highlighted the joint review of the trade agreement.

The roadmap emphasizes that clean manufacturing is the future of all manufacturing, and therefore competitiveness depends on sustaining investment in industrial transformation.

Navigating the Build America, Buy America Act

The BlueGreen Alliance Foundation (BGAF) and Ecomedes today hosted a webinar exploring the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act. BABA—part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL)—strengthens and expands “Buy America” requirements for federally financed infrastructure projects. This new policy has significantly increased the need for U.S. manufacturers to identify their products as BABA compliant. The webinar highlighted and built upon the BlueGreen Alliance’s “Making BABA Work for American Manufacturers” guide, released in December.
