Three Coasts Impacted by More Trump Administration Offshore Wind Buyouts

August 6, 2026

RWE U.S. Offshore announced that it has settled with the U.S. Department of Interior to relinquish its offshore wind leases off the coasts of New York, California, and Louisiana. RWE received a total of $1.22 billion.

To track costs of the Trump administration’s war on offshore wind, the BlueGreen Alliance has launched a webpage tallying and documenting the impacts of these buyouts. To date, the buyouts have totaled $3.9 billion in taxpayer money, abandoned 21.15 GW of energy, and cost the nation at least 57,000 projected jobs. The tracker will be updated with any future buyout announcements.

Following the announcement, the BlueGreen Alliance released a statement from Executive Director Jason Walsh:

“The Trump administration is relentless in its war on offshore wind. Billions of taxpayers’ dollars have gone to waste along with tens of thousands of lost potential jobs. At a time when energy demand and costs are rising, we are disheartened by this latest buyout. Now working people on three coasts will no longer get to reap the benefits of the clean and reliable energy that would have come from these projects.”
